We are hiring an accounting professional with a strong technical foundation who is excited to grow with the company. In the Accountant role, you will work closely with our team to deliver service for our clients and support us in building strong processes for growth.
This is a full-time 6-month contract role with strong potential to become permanent.
We have a hybrid working arrangement with an office location in central Mississauga (L5B 1M2), easily accessible by highway and public transit. This role requires 2-3 days a week in the office.
Responsibilities
Core accounting operations
- Booking all periodic business activity for clients: revenues and expenses, completing bank and credit card reconciliations and accounting for other complex transactions such as shareholder contributions and loan amortization
- Managing key accounting schedules: fixed assets, loans, prepaids, accruals, unearned revenue and investments
- Support the bookkeeping team in booking all day-to-day transactions, collecting backup documents from clients and making sure cost and project allocations are correct
- Generate and review financial statements for completeness and accuracy
Payroll and compliance
- Support payroll processing in compliance with federal, provincial, and local tax regulations
- Manage CRA accounts to ensure timely income tax, HST and payroll filings and payments
- Lead quarterly close and annual audit process for clients to ensure completeness, accuracy and organization of all working papers
- Support management with the preparation and review of key tax filings e.g. T1, T2, T4, and T5
Reporting and analysis
- Support management with queries regarding transactions and financial statements
- Manage receivables and payables aging balances in accounting software accurately to track cashflows
- Complete financial information and formatting for periodic management reports
- Compile financial data and supporting documents for successful completion of external audits
Internal firm processes
- Create procedures and workflows to document internal best practices for bookkeeping and accounting
- Write accessible financial literacy content to support client learning
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in accounting, finance or related field
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks, Zoho or other similar accounting software
- CPA candidate status is an asset
- 2-5 years of experience with full-cycle accounting
- Prior experience with Canadian payroll, HST returns and non-profit accounting is an asset
- Familiarity with T1/T2 tax software is an asset
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong analytical skills and a natural interest towards investigation and problem solving
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented and client-focused environment
- Strong ethics and integrity in handling confidential financial information
- A focus on continuous improvement and quality
